At any given time, millions of people all over the world are striving to lose weight and get in better shape. Odds are, they’ve tried all the conventional weight loss tips like “Don’t eat after 6PM” or “Eat six small meals.” Those methods may work for some people, but not everyone. When the traditional tips don’t work, you have to turn to something else. Some of the most effective weight loss advice is advice that sounds crazy, and that’s why you should check out these six unconventional weight loss tips that actually work:
1. Watch Where You Sit
Huh? If this one has you scratching your head at first, don’t worry. Let us explain: we’re talking about restaurants. Where you sit in a restaurant can make a big difference when it comes to over-eating. If you find yourself always sitting at the bar, where appetizers like chips and salsa are usually sitting out free of charge, you’re more likely to indulge in too many and add extra calories to your daily intake. Make sure to sit at a table or booth to steer clear of these freebies.
2. Watch Less Television
This may be the most obvious tip on our list, and that’s because it’s true. The amount of television you watch is directly linked to your weight. That’s because when you’re watching TV, you’re most often sedentary. Sure, some people watch TV while they’re working out on the treadmill, but the vast majority of people watch TV from the comfort of their couch. Getting off the couch and doing another activity will help you stay active and burn more calories.
3. Check Your Emails
Is your inbox overflowing with unread messages? If so, the secret to rapid weight loss could be hidden deep in that endless array of messages. Many people overlook what they perceive to be “spam” emails, but sometimes you get a message that’s advertising a new weight loss product that actually works. Sure, many of these are gimmicks, but if you actually do your research into the product itself, you may find one that works for you.
4. Turn the Lights Off
A recent study revealed that sleeping in complete darkness compared to with a nightlight or television on could actually keep you slimmer. The study compared two sets of mice – one set kept in complete darkness overnight, with the other set kept in dim lighting. The set of mice kept in complete darkness stayed smaller than the ones exposed to light overnight. So sleeping with no light one at all can actually help you stay slimmer.
5. Give In To Guilty Pleasures
It may seem counter-productive, but sometimes you have to give in to your cravings to lose weight. Forbidding yourself from having your favorite foods only makes you crave them more, which will eventually lead to binging on that favorite food. For this reason, don’t forbid yourself from having the things you really love, but rather allow yourself to have small portions of that food. This way, you’ll satisfy the craving without putting your weight loss in jeopardy.
6. Eat More Spicy Foods
You may have heard this weird weight loss tip before: Spicy foods help you drop pounds. Studies have shown that spicy foods can actually give your metabolism a major kickstart, leading to increased fat-burning. So go ahead and throw some hot peppers in your food and give your diet a swift kick!
